Ron Paul supporters rode an emotional roller coaster as Paul’s campaign and message gained traction daily even as attempts were made to stop the campaign in its tracks.

Two of those supporters, Chris Rye and Corey Kealiher, set out to make a movie about the rEVOLution. Released to DVD on Sept. 23, 2009, the movie is titled “For Liberty: How the Ron Paul Revolution Watered the Withered Tree of Liberty.” The 115-minute documentary follows Paul’s historic campaign from the perspective of grassroots activists, and showcases the unique, often bizarre, yet groundbreaking projects they undertook as they brushed aside traditional campaign methodology.

A Seattle premiere of this film is scheduled for Nov. 20, 2009, at the Jewelbox Theater at the Rendezvous in Belltown. Happy hour priced food and drink is available at the Rendezvous from 4-6 p.m.; doors open at 6. Only 60 seats are available for those who want to relive the grassroots campaign and celebrate its victories together. Tickets will sell out quickly and may be purchased online in advance via PayPal by clicking the link below.

Supporters laughed over hilarious, entertaining hijinks intended to grab attention for Paul’s message. They fumed over concerns of voter fraud, the mainstream media’s exclusion of Paul from public debates, and shoddy treatment by local party leadership. They gave until their bank accounts bled and celebrated together when Ron Paul’s campaign brought in over $20 million one quarter for individual donations.

They experienced profound relief to discover they were not alone in their concerns about the direction this nation was heading and their support for the principles America was founded on. And soon supporters found they had become part of a wildly impassioned movement so much larger than themselves: a movement lovingly titled the Ron Paul rEVOLution.

The ride’s not over yet! Profits from ticket sales will fund a well-organized precinct committee officer drive to encourage local liberty lovers to get involved with the political party of their choice at the neighborhood level. Subscribe to “The Torch Times” for more information to come on this effort.

A few months ago, I sat down in a Seattle pizza place with two other liberty-minded individuals and talked about launching a political blog for people like us — foleymo, thinkchip and gumpster.

We’re sick of party politics, empty promises and needless government intrusion into our everyday lives. In the Seattle area, we have a few political blogs that challenge the mainstream media, but they are all bitterly partisan.

We set out to create a blog that offers thoughtful political commentary on events and issues from a common-sense, non-partisan point of view as an alternative to the pandering mainstream media and blind partisanship of many of the other area bloggers. We’ll deliver good content that speaks to your inherent civil liberty, political liberty and economic liberty.

If this blogging endeavor goes well, we expect to bring you thought leadership on liberty, point out partisan political hypocrisy and offer ideas and solutions to problems that you won’t hear from Republicans and Democrats.

Though it is our blog, we fully expect passionate people (intelligent and otherwise) to engage us (and each other) via blog comments. Discussion and discourse is healthy, but we will not put up with personal attacks and we reserve the right to remove comments that cross the line.

We’ll add some posts soon to introduce ourselves better and explain why we chose “The Torch Times” as the name for this blog.

If you’d like to suggest a topic for us to blog about, send us an e-mail at torchtimes@gmail.com.
