Welcome to “The Torch Times” — Lighting the Fire

torch-lightA few months ago, I sat down in a Seattle pizza place with two other liberty-minded individuals and talked about launching a political blog for people like us — foleymo, thinkchip and gumpster.

We’re sick of party politics, empty promises and needless government intrusion into our everyday lives. In the Seattle area, we have a few political blogs that challenge the mainstream media, but they are all bitterly partisan.

We set out to create a blog that offers thoughtful political commentary on events and issues from a common-sense, non-partisan point of view as an alternative to the pandering mainstream media and blind partisanship of many of the other area bloggers. We’ll deliver good content that speaks to your inherent civil liberty, political liberty and economic liberty.

If this blogging endeavor goes well, we expect to bring you thought leadership on liberty, point out partisan political hypocrisy and offer ideas and solutions to problems that you won’t hear from Republicans and Democrats.

Though it is our blog, we fully expect passionate people (intelligent and otherwise) to engage us (and each other) via blog comments. Discussion and discourse is healthy, but we will not put up with personal attacks and we reserve the right to remove comments that cross the line.

We’ll add some posts soon to introduce ourselves better and explain why we chose “The Torch Times” as the name for this blog.

If you’d like to suggest a topic for us to blog about, send us an e-mail at torchtimes@gmail.com.

Thanks for the well wishes! Let us know when we screw up. Keep us honest in the comments. We’re counting on you. :-)

Your introduction of the Torch Times is inspiring to say the least. I look forward to reading your posts. I hope that articles are in fact as independent and non-partisian as you claim; such independence and honesty is hard to find in today’s world. “We’ll deliver good content that speaks to your inherent civil liberty, political liberty and economic liberty”. It is refreshing to hear such goals- furthermore, I daresay that these type of goals are precisely what our country needs to have on their minds…

      Thanks gina!

I really appreciate your kind words. It would be great to have you as a regular commenter. I know you’re into homeschooling and growing organic food. Those are both liberties I’d like to see preserved. I know there’s a bill in the works in Congress that threatens organic farmers. Would you like to help us keep an eye on it?

Thanks for stopping by! It was good to meet you at BlogWorld last week. Do you have any good liberty blogs in Florida?

I wouldn’t mind becoming familiar with the journalists/news sources out there that have liberty and non-partisanship as signatures of their reporting. I want to hear more about them as I’ve lost respect for many of our newspapers and communication outlets.

Wow! Thanks Judy! It’s always good to have a ringing endorsement from a school teacher. I’m glad you stopped by and I hope to see more discussion from you on here in the future.

Great to see the blog getting up on its feet. Looking forward to your (TOTALLY NOT INSANE) insight into the issues of our time.

Looks like a good start. Driving a wedge between the two parties, and raising an awareness of the fact that executive orders and an unchecked federal reserve have rendered party politics pretty much futile is necessary to get more people to focus on the root of the problem: the federal reserve and monetary system that pulls the poltiicians strings. I believe that will relieve people of the headache of playing the blame game with local and national politicians, the president. Perhaps just an awareness amongst most people will be enough to pressure the federal reserve into change, since they probably can’t handle chaos and would buckle if they felt like they were cornered.
